We are very much a family run business specialising in the breeding and training of working line Cane Corso. From our facilities in Europe we have supplied our New Era Cane Corso puppies and trained protection dogs to many families across the world. We are passionate about the preservation of the original Cane Corso and understand the historical and cultural importance of this breed, particularly in its native South Italian countryside. Our work is based on strong selection of traits that have kept the Cane Corso up there with the best close quarter guardian dogs on the planet.

A functional phenotype is a very crucial aspect for any working dog. The physical structure of the animal must allow the dog to perform the role it was originally created for. In the case of the Cane Corso this is the job of a farm utility dog, hunter and guardian. The Cane Corso is a breed from the South of Italy, a part of Europe that experiences extremely high temperatures in the summer months and cold in the winter particularly in mountainous regions. This requires a rustic dog that can of course adapt to both environments. The coat must be a double instalator and also thick and hardy. The physical structure of the dog must enable it to breath freely through the nose whilst running or holding onto a game animal in the hunt. The muzzle must be long and the jaws powerfull. The limbs must be well angulated, long and sturdy and the body powerfull and athletic, strong enough to seize a wild beast or man in defence of his master. In our recent times with most breeds becoming companion dogs and less required to carry out the roles for which they were created we see a huge shift in the appearance of alot of breeds. This also includes the Cane Corso. With the breed becoming more and more popular we have seen drastic changes within the breed and in most cases for the worst. We see breeders selecting for size and mass, thick bone and shorter muzzles. All of these greatly effect the ability of the dog to function in his role and in most cases these modern style dogs have even lost the temperament to want to work at all.
At New Era our whole breeding programme is based on producing family guardian dogs. Therefore selection of extremely balanced subjects are crucial to our programme. In addition our dogs must fulfill the role as guardian so a strong, confident and territorial character must also be selected for. This is where the old South Italian dogs excell. The dogs have already gone through many generations of strong and careful selection over the previous years by the Italians for the traits of aloofness towards strangers and also great gentleness and docility with the family. Our selection programme continues in this direction testing every subject in our programme to ensure these important traits are carried through to offspring. Our job is not necessarily to change what we already have but to preserve it.
